About the Artist
Somerville Artist, Heather Balchunas, received her BFA in illustration from Massachusetts College of Art in 1997. The Blues Plate Special collection of musicians and diners are an embodiment of the nostalgic themes that are close to her heart. Some of her artistic influences are Georgia O’Keefe, Kandinsky, Edward Hopper, and Brian Froud. Balchunas feels it is this diverse mix that motivates, inspires, and encourages her to explore. As a freelance graphic designer and fine artist, she paints murals for private residencies, creates sets for theatrical production, and designs promotional pieces for local businesses.
